Alcohol inks with “ ENDANGERED SPECIES XI ”
Alicia Tormey ' s Wild Botanical series introduced me to alcohol inks . These inks , intended to be used on Yupo paper , come in a wide variety of colors . Considered " craft " inks , they have seductive and quirky names : Mushroom , Moss , Monsoon , Meadow , Laguna , Limeade , Dandelion , Dijon , Butterscotch , Eggplant , and Watermelon , to name just a few . They are a more fascinating medium to me than watercolor . One color can morph into many different colors with the addition of alcohol . I knew I had to start playing with these and somehow make images that were my own . After doing some experimental butterflies and sea creatures , I settled on the vertical jellyfish set in the center of a rectangle of pure white . I liked the effect very much . That was the beginning of the Endangered Species series .
