Fallen Madonna , Encaustic and handmade papers on panel , 24 Inches x 24 Inches , 2012
The paper in this painting is of my own making . Sometimes I use iris leaves or dryer lint or dried herbs in my papers . I often employ a cross of some sort in my work , not because I am religious by any means , but because it is a reference to the strength that is needed form me and so many women to make it on our own terms . The strength it takes to be going it alone is a daunting business . No strength is gained without slashes and wounds .
