One building in particular, the barracks, has figured largely in a few of my paintings (see ‘Abandoned’ and ‘My Temple’). It is a completely hollow form, and for me, represents an emotional space. Prior to the storm, before Sandy was predicted, my painting ‘Sinking’ was in progress. This painting emerged from an intense emotional experience, yet after the storm I felt a chill at the prescience of the image; it took on new meaning. There was an overwhelming sense of, not just an emotional, but also a physical sense of sinking as a result of Sandy.
