T he talent and variety of the music scene
here in Albuquerque is quite vast. You’ll
want to add the artist Purp to your play-
list. With a multifaceted sound, creative
lyrics, combining genres, and infectious
beats infused with pop, rock, and hip
hop. The artist Purp is filled with musical
“PURPose”!
The man behind the music is Donovan
Baldonado known to the music indus-
try as Purp. Music has long been a part
of his family, so it’s no surprise he would
also display his natural talent. A fond and
proud memory was being the DJ for his
5th grade school dance. And working as
a DJ is still something he currently does
when he’s not performing or touring. He
is a proud father and felt at a crossroads

when his son was born. He felt like he had
a bigger purpose and had to do more. He
dreamt of a legacy for his son, to be an in-
spiration, he wanted to create more aware-
ness to the music scene, and felt he had a
lot to contribute. In 2015 he furthered his
education and his craft by attending The
Recording Connection in Los Angeles,
CA where he studied Audio Engineering.
His future goals are to work with produc-
tion companies, do shows, and eventually
create an agency and his own music label.
He writes all his music and finds his inspi-
ration from his personal life experiences,
and any pain he turns into purpose and
creative passion. Earlier this past May he
performed at a show called the NBA Dab
Tour. What he thought was a show turned
out to be a competition that he won. As
