WHAT YOU WANT

n the first article in this series (2 issues ago) we
talked about what success means to you. In the
last issue, we talked about developing a, whatever
it takes mindset/attitude. I believe it’s the number
one most important attribute that successful peo-
ple have because their attitude affects their out-
look, their view of themselves, their future, their
view of their customers, their business, their rela-
tionships, their lives.
Now that you’ve done both of those things, it’s time
to figure out what you really want. This article will
help you to do just that.
Many years ago, one of my mentors said to me, “If
you don’t know where you’re going, any road will
take you there.” When you think about that, it’s sim-
ple, but it’s quite profound. If you don’t know where
you’re going, one of two things will happen. Either
you’ll never leave your present location, or you’ll get
lost a lot along the way and continually have to re-
start and you’ll end up somewhere, but not where
you wanted to be.
The point is that you don’t want to end up like a pin-
ball, bouncing from one thing to the next, to the next,
at the mercy of whateve r you happen to bump up
against. So you have to begin with the end in mind.
You have to see where your final destination is and
then you’ll be able to plot out a clear path to reaching
it.
Self Development
So what do you want? What you want is the end goal
that you’re working towards having. This is a critical
foundational step to success. Most people never fig-
ure this out. Or, if they know what they want, they
don’t give themselves permission to go on out and get
it. Maybe they’re afraid that they will fail. Maybe they
believe they’re not good enough to have what they
want. Maybe they don’t believe that they deserve it.
Whatever the reason is doesn’t really matter if you’ve
never figured out what you want.
So, sit down and figure out what you want. Don’t cen-
sor yourself. Don’t hold back. Just keep going until
what you’ve come up with what makes you excited,
inspires you and gets your blood pumping. Why? Be-
cause if you’re not excited about it, you won’t have
the energy, the passion, the inspiration to keep going
in the face of adversity when it comes later on down
the line.
To help you with this, here are a few tips to consider.
1. Suspend all disbelief that it can be done or how it’s
