Seine Net

A seine is a small-meshed net that is suspennded vertically in the water with floats and weights to enclose and concentrate fish. Beach seines are either dragged into shallow water or onto the beach. This can be done by hand or with powerwinches; amechanical device used to pull in or let out or otherwise adjust the "tension" of a rope or wire rope). In other nations such as Japan, Denmark, and Scottland, larger seines are used and pulled by vessles. These are deployed over soft sediment, which helps heard the fish into a remote location.
