DT : I got the Vibe internship and I got it because I was fearless . That ’ s that fearlessness I ’ m talking about being young and being hungry . I cold called them and it was my man Greg Bishop , who I didn ’ t know then , was like the new media tech dude at Vibe and I called him and I was just like , “ Yo , I heard you guys had an internship . I saw it online ,” and he was like , “ Yeah , but it ’ s going to be like 300 people here applying for that one position .” I was like , “ What ?” I said , “ Alright .” He was like , “ Yeah , I need you here on Saturday at like 10:00 a . m . and we ’ ll see what happens .” I was like ,
“ Alright , cool .” I believe it was my birthday weekend in May , I hardly had any money , but I still got fresh . I went and got a haircut . I get there mad early and the security guard of the building was like , “ Ain ’ t nobody here , it ’ s the weekend .” I ’ m like , “ No , no , no . It ’ s supposed to be 300 people here .” He started laughing at me . At this time I ’ m very respectful but I was still coming from out of the hood like , “ Yo , what are you laughing for ? That ’ s just disrespectful . You ’ re going to laugh ?” That ’ s what I remember addressing and I think he took it like , “ Well , anyway , ain ’ t nobody here so you can get out .” I was like , “ Damn , like yo , why is Vibe being like this ?” I used to think of it being Vibe when they were just in the building . I go outside , I ’ m on the payphone , because I ’ m like , “ Yo , I ’ ve got to call this dude .” I call him and it ’ s still around 10 and when I called he picked up and he ’ s like , “ Yo , this is Greg .” I ’ m like , “ Yo , this Datwon , what ’ s going on ? What you got going on . They told me ain ’ t nobody here .” He ’ s like , “ No , no , no . I just got in , my bad , where you at ?” I was like , “ I ’ m on the corner .” He sticks his head out the window like , “ Can you see me ?” I look down the block , “ Oh , there you go .” He ’ s waving me up to come back . He ’ s like , “ Yo , come back for the job .” I ’ m like , “ Alright .”

I ’ m like , “ Yo , dude told me he ’ s upstairs .” He ’ s like , “ Yeah , yeah , yeah .” I ’ m like , “ Why you wouldn ’ t let me go ?” He was like , “ You walked out , and he walked in .” I go upstairs and I ’ m expecting to hear a lot of commotion still , because he probably tried to play me . It ’ s like 300 people up there . I get up there and the dude opens the door and it ’ s just him . I ’ m expecting all this noise , 300 people going to make a lot of noise in the hall .
