Despite limited op�ortunties for growth in the pharmaceutical industry – a problem that has affected the sector for two decades – it remains the fourth biggest sector by volume of business worldwide , behind technology , financial and consumer businesses . Therefore , it remains a bigger industry than energy , telecommunications and automotive , for example . The responsibilities of legal directors in the pharmaceutical industry are increasing , making it a role that requires specialisation and a continuous updating on the key regulatory changes .
