SARDINIA
ardinia, together with Sicily is one of largest island
in the Mediterranean. Famous for its crystal-cle-
ar sea it is a place that everyone, at least once in
their lifetime, would like to visit. Its famous coasts
are waiting to be discovered adventurously, coast to coast, each
with its own particular views, unusual colours or sought-after
places where it is easy to meet famous people enjoying the sea
during the day and the unfailing social life by night. But Sardi-
nia is not only the sea: many people are unaware of its many
more characteristic aspects. The interior of the island,
strewn with nuraghes in a more or less well preser-
ved state, bears witness to the remains of the ancient
Nuragic civilization which is still today enshrouded
in mystery and which stimulates the imagination of
visitors and the curiosity of archeologists. Sardinia,
one of the oldest lands of Europe which emerged
600 million years ago, also offers, for the lovers of lost
civilizations, various archeological sites of immense
beauty and historical-scientific importance such as the Pho-
enician-Punic-Roman cities of Tharros and Nora. A combi-
nation of scenic and climatic factors have permitted the de-
velopment of flora and fauna particular to the island, which
can be seen especially in the stupendous Sardinian marine
parks: La Maddalena and the Peninsula of the Sinis marine
park. Sardinia is also a land rich in traditions which are kept
alive through its dialect, festivals, costumes, popular feasts
and the flavours of its typical cuisine.
