? The US healthcare market is estimated to reach USD 4.6tn by 2020 from USD 2.5tn in 2011, according to data by research firm Nelson Hall/Technology Holdings. The US healthcare market would provide an outsourcing opportunity worth USD 22.5bn by 2015 from USD 14.5bn in 2011.
? The US healthcare reform, announced by President Barack Obama and referred to as Obamacare, was signed into law in 2010 and is expected to come into effect by 2014. Under the new law, some 30 million uninsured Americans are expected to buy healthcare insurance. Within this framework, the Indian ITBPO companies expect new projects in the form of data conversion, creation and management of electronic health records, as well as claims processing and insurance sales. ? Another opportunity for the Indian IT vendors is the October 2013 deadline for the US transition to ICD-10 (International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition) from the existing ICD-9 system of disease classification. According to Itbizcharts, the US healthcare companies are already late for the transition to the new system, which was developed in 1993 and has already been adopted by countries including Australia, Germany and the UK.
