Page 15 May 2017 EMETRO EDUCATION HERITAGE HIGH PATRIOT PLAYERS PERFORMING AT 9TH ANNUAL GEORGIA HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL THEATRE AWARDS-SHULER HENSLEY AWARDS S tudents of the Academy for Performing and Visual Arts at Heritage High School in Rockdale County were nominated by the 2017 Georgia High School Musical Theatre Awards/Shuler Hensley Awards for their 2017 winter production of Les Miserables. Heritage High School received nominations in 5 categories: Best Music Direction, Terrance Green (Ensemble); Best Performance Leading Actor, Ramone Nelson; Best Performance by a Featured Performer, Mekhi Hamm; and Overall Production. In addition to these five nominations, the Shuler Awards gave technical director, Fenna Henderson, an Honorable Mention for lighting design, and senior Arianna Hardaway received a scholarship for the Performer’s Warehouse Summer Intensive. Seniors Malaikia Sims-Winfrey and Lathan Roberts were nominated to perform with the Shuler Student Ensemble and will be performing in the award show’s opening and finale numbers. The entire Les Miserables cast will perform live from Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre at 7pm on April 20, 2017. Presented by the Georgia Lottery and produced by ArtsBridge Foundation, the awards show will air on Georgia Public Broadcasting (GPB) over its nine-station, statewide, television network live from Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre on April 20th from 7 to 9pm. The Shuler Award are, fashioned after Broadway’s Tony Awards and celebrate excellence in high school musical theatre. The evening will kick-off with red carpet arrivals, followed by a dazzling opening number when the 120-member Shuler Student Ensemble joins Shuler Hensley on stage. Performances by the six schools nominated for Best Overall Production, winner of the Show Stopper, and the Leading Actor and Actress nominees will also be featured during the show.
