WELCOME TO OUR WORLD
THE GLOBAL
OF HUMANITY
For every point on Earth, Radical Cartography’s Bill Rankin has
calculated the percent of all humans that reside on the half of
the globe centered on that particular point. Put another way—
his statistics represent how many people live within a radius
of approximately 10,000 km. On land, the values range from a
high of 92.9 percent—an area that Rankin terms the Human
Hemisphere—to a low of 8.1 percent on the Antipodes Islands
off the coast of New Zealand. Interestingly, a large proportion of
Europe is above 92 percent, while almost the whole of Eurasia
is above 80 percent.
