Education in the Czech Republic according to the law is based on several principles, for example it should take into account individual needs, promote solidarity and above all make education accessible for everyone without discrimination based on the race, skin colour, sex, language, religion, nationality, social and ethnical background, property, family, and health. Recently the word ‘inclusion’ has been mentioned a lot among politicians, educators and parents. § 16 of the school law ..Children, pupils, students with special needs have the right to get for free provided support by the school institutions. Thse children can get compensational tools, special textbooks. Next, they can be taught according to an individual plan. An assistant of a teacher could be used for their education. Inclusion is looked at as something that actually enriches the society and individuals. Both the school and the disadvantage pupil/students benefit. Ideally, children should be educated with their peers, near the place where they live and with regard to their needs. Inclusion is not integration. Integration, an older term, focuses on a disability of of a child, what it lacks. Inclusion can be understood as a higher level of integration. It says that every person is an individuality and we should not divide people based on diagnostic criteria. We shall change the system / school condtitions, not the child. Inclusive education is thus a flexible process. But the reality is much more complicated as it involves a lot of work and also special training of the teachers. Plus, parents must cooperate as well to make everything smooth. Last but not least, a big portion of tolerance and open mind is needed; on the contrary it is also one of the benefits gained. Nowadays there are courses for becoming a teacher assistant. However, it must be said that a salary of an assistant is quite low. Many people manage to do it only for a short time. We have asked some of our students the following questions: 1. What is ‘inclusion’? 2. What experience do you have with it, in or outside school? 3. If you have an experience, please, write about it. Aneta had a classmate at basic school who had a teacher assistant. The pupil was slower. In Aneta’s opinion it is a good thing cause the people can get used to ‘normal’ society and are not separated. 26
