• In the late 1960s and early seventies, rock developed different
subgenres.
• When it was mixed with folk music or with blues or jazz, folk rock,
blues-rock and jazz-rock were born respectively.
• In the 1970s, rock incorporated influences from genres such as soul
music, funk and various rhythms from Latin American countries.
• Still in that decade, rock has spawned a number of other subgenres,
such as soft rock, glam rock, heavy metal, hard rock, progressive
rock and punk rock.
• Later in the eighties, the subgenres that appeared were new wave,
hardcore punk and alternative rock. And in the 1990s, the subgenres
created were grunge, britpop, indie rock and bare metal.
