Festival Marés Vivas : on the other side of the river , in Vila Nova de Gaia , the Festival Marés Vivas brings names from the national and international music scene to an event that takes place along the Douro River .
These are the celebrations that take place in August :
Festas de S . Bartolomeu : in Foz do Douro , the Festivities of S . Bartolomeu bring traditional handicrafts and gastronomy to the Jardim do Passeio Alegre . Also part of the parties is a procession with costumes made of paper .
Noites Ritual Rock ( at the end of the month ): music festival with Portuguese bands and artists .
