La Tomatina, Buñol. It’ s a celebration which
takes place in Buñol, al ways on the last Wednesday of August. In the Tomatina, the participants throw tomatoes to one another. Before the spectacle begins, paellas are prepared in the main square so that people enjoy and are full of energy. The games start at 10 am, and in the first stage, people climb a greased pole until somebody reaches a piece of ham, which is the signal for the tomato throwing to begin. After an hour, the battle ends. The streets end up completely covered in red. There are some important rules so that nobody gets hurt: bottles can’ t be thrown, just tomatoes, and they must be squashed beforehand. It’ s another celebration typical from the Valencian Community.
Feria de Abril, Sevilla. A group of big covered stands and fairground rides are put up in Los
Remedios. It takes place one or two weeks after Easter. It is the most important, best known and most visited fair in Spain. It normally lasts a week. Many people who attend the fair dress in the traditional costumes; the women wear flamenco dresses and the men short suits and hats. There are a lot of typical singing and dancing traditions and a carriage parade. At night, the streets are lit with lanterns and decorated with lightbulbs. The lights are switched off at 3 am, except on Saturday, when they are turned off at 6 am and on Saturday at 12, because the fireworks begin. The celebration exists since 1847 until today.
San Fermin, Navarra( Pamplona). On the 6th of
July, before midday, everybody is at the Town Hall Square in Pamplona. The most awaited moment of the year is about to begin: the San Fermín Celebrations. Thousands of Pamplonians wait until a rocket lit from the Town Hall balcony that is the signal of the beginning:“ el chupinazo”. This is followed by nine days of nonstop celebrations throughout the streets of the town. The“ encierros” are an experience that cannot be missed. Every morning, hundreds of people run in front of the bulls in a race full of dizziness and difficulties until they reach the bullring, where the bulls will fight in the afternoon. There are also some activists agains this festival. But the truth is that a lot of people not only from the country but abroad come to“ run the sanfermines”.
