India has given its verdict and chosen the man who once made tea for survival to serve as the nation ’ s key decision maker for another five years . Narendra Modi-led NDA has recorded a landslide victory in the 17th general elections . Out of 542 available Lok Sabha seats , BJP has swept over 303 seats , marking an even bigger victory than 2014 when the National Democratic Alliance won 282 seats .
The BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi , scripted history by becoming the second political party in the Indian history to come back to power , even stronger this time . The Congress once again fell short of numbers needed to get Leader of Opposition position in Lok Sabha . Modi Tsunami has swept the nation but had he been able to achieve the difficult feat alone ? Seems unlikely ! Among the many firsts , BJP has touched upon this year , victory in Congress bastion Amethi could be termed as the biggest . In the biggest victory ever , Smriti Irani , the woman who was once questioned for her educational qualification has defeated the Gandhi scion by over 55,000 votes .
Aided by Modi ’ s personal appeal and factors like Balakot , the BJP managed to turn the election into a one-sided affair . The Congress also lacked a narrative to counter the BJP ’ s playbook . The NYAY scheme it thought would be the magic bullet to fetch votes , failed to percolate to the party cadre at the grassroots , let alone the electorate . On the contrary , at least three schemes of the NDA-free LPG connections ( Ujjwala ), building of toilets ( Swachh Bharat ) and the direct cash transfer to farmers scheme - had Modi ’ s stamp all over them . Political pundits and media celebrities will now trot out multiple explanations for the final outcome , but one clear message is that voters felt there was no alternative to Modi .
The remarkable victory is sure a testimony that India sees NaMo 2.0 as the only way forward to become a developed nation .
