AROUND WORLD Trump Cleared President Donald Trump has been cleared in his impeachment trial, ending a congressional bid to oust him from office that bitterly divided the US. The Senate, run by the president's fellow Republicans, voted to acquit him 52-48 on charges of abuse of power and 53-47 on obstruction of Congress. Democrats charged Mr Trump in December with pressuring Ukraine to smear a potential White House rival. In November, Mr Trump will be the first impeached president to go for election. In its historic vote on Wednesday, the Senate decided not to remove America's 45th president from office on charges arising from his dealings with Ukraine. If convicted on either charge, Mr Trump would have had to turn over his office to Vice- President Mike Pence. The Democratic-led House of Representatives approved the articles of impeachment on 18 December. Half of UK 10-yearolds own a Smartphone Fifty per cent of the UK's 10-year-olds owned a smartphone in 2019. The amount of young phone owners doubled between the ages of nine and 10, which Ofcom dubbed "the age of digital independence". In addition, 24% of 3 and 4-yearolds had their own tablet, and 15% of them were allowed to take it to bed.Ofcom's annual report looks at the media habits of children, and the types of devices they are using. The 2019 study was based on more than 3,200 interviews with children and parents around the UK. Uber self-driving cars allowed back Ride-hailing firm Uber has been issued a permit by the Department of Motor Vehicles in California to test selfdriving cars on public roads.It comes nearly two years after one of Uber's self-driving cars was involved in a fatal crash in Arizona.Uber scaled back its autonomous car operations following the incident.Receiving a permit in California - which has granted permits to 65 other transport firms - is the latest step in Uber's revival of the programme.California allows companies to test self-driving technology with a backup driver in the car.Before the fatal crash, Uber's self-driving cars were being tested in four locations in North America - Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Francisco and Toronto. 44 February 2020 | www.smartgovernance.in
