About ten years ago, I taught for just such an
organisation. Following a change in local
management, out went the textbooks and in came a
huge amount of work for the teachers, who were
asked to develop task-based syllabuses for every
single course. Understandably, there was a lot of
resistance to the wholesale upheaval of a system
which seemed to have been working well for the
preceding 70 years or so but within a few months, the
new, task-based approach had to be put into practice.
