“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” - John 3:16 - L ooking at my boys playing, it is very obvious that we all have heroes. One loves Iron Man, the other prefers Super Man and the oldest says that Captain America is the best. after 3 days. He came to give us life and to teach us how to live. He came to tell us that all we have to do is accept Him and believe in Him that He is the Son of God and we will be saved. This often leads to a full blown squabble about who is the best among them. He came for us, even though the very people that He came to save and had the privilege of hearing Him and seeing Him, rejected Him and sentenced Him to death. I believe it is in our DNA to want a hero, to have someone to look up to. Just look at the majority of films. The one thing they all have in common is the fight between good and evil, right and wrong, and the hero that saves the day. Yes, it is important and great to have someone that you look up to, whether it is your mum, dad, a sporting hero or someone in your local community. The thing to remember though is they are all (as awesome as they are) human. Rejection is something we all face and it hurts. It hurts when we work really hard at something and it gets dismissed without a second glance. It hurts when the boy or man we have a crush on doesn’t even notice us. It hurts when you try really hard to impress someone (mum, dad, teacher, friend or boss) and they shrug off your efforts. We all make mistakes and we all fall short. That is why we need an even bigger hero and that to me is Jesus! In the big scheme of things none of this is even remotely close to the rejection that Jesus faced and still faces today with so many people refusing to believe but my point is, He still came. He truly is remarkable. Think about it, He came to earth, He came knowing what He was going to face, knowing what He would have to go through. He knew and still He came. He knows you and He knows what you are going through; He knows the hurt and the pain and He can and does understand you. Most importantly He loves you. God the Father loves you and me so much that He was willing to send His only Son to die a terrible death. But Jesus didn’t just come to die for us, He overcame death when He was resurrected It is worth rejoicing in. It is worth telling everyone about. It is worth sharing His message. It is worth sharing His love. It is worth sharing Jesus, the biggest Hero of all!` Page 57
