27 Newquay May 10_Layout 1 12/05/2014 10:29 Page 17 ‘The Mighty Eagles’ – Elmore AFC (1947) Elmore history an immense undertaking by the membership and resulted in the purchase of a piece of land called Slaughterhouse Field. Now renamed Horsdon Park, this remains today the cornerstone of the club and the firm base for the football and social club sections. Formed in 1947 as the Elmore Sports Club, the original aim was to provide sporting and social facilities for the people of Tiverton. In its early years the club was compelled to continually move premises and in1958 a major decision to purchase land was made.
