tremendous shot from

Arguably the greatest night in the history
of Elmore Football Club – and certainly
one of the most memorable – took place
at St James’ Park, Exeter, on April 14,
1972, when Elmore met the powerful
Dawlish Town in the East Devon Senior
Cup final – a match in which virtually no
one gave Elmore a chance.

deflated they did not even bother to
collect their losers medals as the Elmore
players and fans alike celebrated a
momentous cup victory.
Certainly a confident Dawlish outfit
believed they had it all sewn up as they
had arranged an open top double-decker
bus to take their ‘triumphant team’ back
to parade the cup around Dawlish.

(player-manager) and Rod Stone.
And with 10 minutes to go, with Elmore
trailing 2-0, it seemed that all the
predictions were vindicated. The officials
seemed to think so as well as the Dawlish
colours had already been put on the cup!
However, Elmore’s never-say-die attitude
brought about a tremendous comeback.
