Town bowed out 1-0 to eventual cup winners St. Helens in a quarter-final replay at Bickland Park. Further SWL titles were added in 86/87, 88/89 and 89/90 and between September 1985 and April 1988, Falmouth Town were unbeaten at Bickland Park for 52 SWL games. The third treble was achieved without losing a match, with 46 wins, and only three draws. Amazingly, this feat was accomplished with a squad of only 13 players. With Trevor Mewton in charge, the SWL Cup was won in 1990-91 and in the following season a SWL/SWL Cup double was achieved. This was the beginning of a record breaking eight consecutive championships under legendary manager Richard Gray, as three more SWL titles were followed by four Western League Championships. After two barren seasons, former player Ray Nicholls was appointed as manager and, with an almost new team, the SWL Cup was won. When, in 1974-75, Town stepped up to Western League football, the transition was incredible. The League and Cup double was won without losing a match…a run that stretched until January 1976, a mammoth 58 games. Additionally, the Senior Cup was won four years running from 1975/76 to 1978/79. David Ball took over as manager in 1996 and he set about rebuilding the team with dramatic results. In his first season of management, he secured Town’s fourth domestic treble. 2001 saw yet another record set; the longest journey in FA competition, when Town travelled 500 miles to meet Bedlington Terriers in the FA Vase 4th Round. Financial issues forced the club to withdraw from the Western League and when the SWL member clubs refused entry to their league, Town played the 1983-84 season in the Cornwall Combination. This though was the beginning of the Dave Wadd era and another successful period for the club. In 2007-08 Falmouth Town became founder members of the Carlsberg South West Peninsula League. n In June 2012, before the 2012-2013 season, The Combination was won and Town returned to the SWL in 1984-85. The next season saw the team win a league and cup double and then in 1986-87 the FA refused to allow Falmouth Town to enter any national FA competitions because they do not have toilet facilities in the home and away dressing room, and the referee’s room. 7
