£20,000, a considerable sum in those
days. As part of that deal Bickland
Park was built, and although the team
played one more season back at
Union Corner, the move was completed
in 1957.
The next season Town created history
by becoming the first Cornish Club to
reach the First Round proper of the
FA Cup, a record that still stands, and
were drawn at home to Oxford
United. A record crowd of 6,300 saw
the team lose 2-1 in a closely fought
game. This feat was repeated twice
more; in 1967, a 5-2 loss away to
Peterborough Utd; and in 1969, a 1-4
reverse against the same opponents
at Bickland Park.
The first major trophy, the SWL Cup, was
won in 1957-58 without conceding a
goal on the way.
The cup was retained as Truro City were
beaten 6-3, a record score. Town
completed their first treble in 1961/62.
The Senior Cup Final that year was
