However, he suffered a head injury and was taken to hospital with concussion. Graham Harvey holds the distinction of being the first Elmore player to represent the Devon Senior side. Graham started playing football at school where he represented and captained the Tiverton School side. At the age of 14 he joined Elmore Colts and in his last year he captained them when they won the league and cup double. Outside of football, Graham started work at Rendells and was soon bakery manager. Fancying a change, he turned to sales and in 1985 he joined Pearl Assurance. He loved the job and a few years later Bill Jones, who owned his own business, asked Graham to join him with a view to eventually taking over the business. In 1999 he did just that and in 2003, after amalgamating with other local businesses, BH&S Insurance was born. He was in Elmore Reserves at the age of 16 and scored twice in the Geary Cup final in the 3-3 draw with Exmouth Town. He was part of the highly successful Elmore Rockets six-a-side team which won virtually everything over a two year period before quickly becoming a fixture in the Elmore first team. Graham was MD of BH&S Insurance until April this year when he stepped aside and is now enjoying his role as marketing and sales director. A left winger in his early days, he was converted to a full back by then playermanager, the former Irish international Dermot Curtis. He has two sons, Matthew and Jonathan (also a director at BH&S) and four grandchildren, and is a regularat Horsdon Park. Graham was a regular in the 1971-72 Elmore team that went on to win the East Devon Senior Cup that season. However, he broke a leg in a league game at Willand and had to watch the semi-final and final from the stand. For several years Graham moved between Tiverton and Elmore but when he got married to wife Karen, he cut back his playing commitments and travelling. Graham’s last match for Elmore proved eventful. Having not played for some time, at the 29
