manager of Tiverton Town, who only stayed for
five matches. The Club finished last and had to
apply for re-election for the second time in
three seasons. With the application successful,
the Club, appointed former Porthleven
manager, Alan Carey for the 2003/04 season
with the aim of restoring the Club back to being
one of the top Cornish sides.
From the start of the new season it was clear
that the side was capable of challenging for
honours and they finished as League runnersup – the best position in nine seasons. They
also reached the semi-finals of the League Cup.
The Club also had the honour of having several
players picked for both the SWL and Cornwall
sides, the latter winning the SW Counties
Championship for the first time in their history.
The 2004/05 season again saw the Club finish
runners-up again and they reached the final of
the Cornwall Senior Cup for the first time in six
seasons, also having an excellent run in the FA
Vase, getting to the fourth round for the
second time.
The following season the Club gained a
League and League Cup ’double’ for the first
time in 12 years and also reached the finals of
both the Cornwall Senior and Charity Cups.
In the 2006/07 season Bodmin lost the
Cornwall Charity Cup in a penalty shoot-out
and finished fourth in the league.
For the start of the life in the newly formed
Carlsberg South West Peninsula League, the
Club had a new assistant manager in Darren
Gilbert. After losing at home to Tavistock at the
end of October, the team suffered just one
more defeat in the remainder of the season,
that being in the Cornwall Senior Cup semifinal. This incredible run saw the team go 25
League matches unbeaten, which included 17
straight wins in all competitions.
The League title was won with two matches to
spare and by a clear 10 points, followed by
victory in the Throgmorton Cup to give the
Club its second ‘double’ in five seasons. To cap
this, the Cornwall Charity Cup was also won,
the first ‘treble’ ever achieved by the Club.
The 2008-09 season could have been a case of
‘after the Lord Mayor’s Show’, however, despite
numerous setbacks, it ended in magnificent
triumph for Bodmin Town.
Although there were early exits from both the
FA Cup and Vase competitions, added to the
resignation of Manager Alan Carey in early
October, the squad just got stronger as the
season progressed. Darren Gilbert stepped up
from assistant manager to take over the reins
and the team just kept on winning, with 13
consecutive League victories and they
achieved something no other Bodmin Town
side had done, two successive League and Cup
‘doubles’ after retaining the League title and
winning the Thogmorton.
Bodmin were runners-up in both the League
and the Throgmorton Cup in 2009-10 but they
did win the Cornwall Senior Cup for only the
second time in the Club’s history. The following
year they finished as runners-up again and
won the Cornwall Senior Cup, but went out of
the Throgmorton Cup at the semi-final stage.
In 2011-12 they recorded a unique treble,
winning the League, League Cup and Cornwall
Senior Cup. Last season they again achieved
an amazing treble.
