Jackie Robinson was born in Cairo Georgia in 1919. Robinson played football, baseball, track, and basketball at UCLA. He was the first to receive varsity letters for four sports. Jackie also served in the United States army but received honorable discharge after being discriminated against. In 1945, Jackie played one season in the Negro Baseball League, traveling all over the Midwest with the Kansas City Monarchs. He received National League Rookie of the Year with 12 homers, a league-leading 29 steals, and a .297 average. He then played for the Brooklyn Dodgers breaking racial barriers in the north and south in professional sports. He was the first baseball player to break Major League Baseball’s color barrier that segregated the sport for more than 50 years. Robinson is a huge role model for everyone in the country to this day. because he overcame racial boundaries and was an activitst for equality. He was also one of the best baseball players to this day.
