Let’s share something
positive for a change
The Green Man
is a face surrounded by or
made from leaves, usually
bearing fruit or flowers. It
was coined by Lady Raglan
in 1939.
Green Men are frequently found
on carvings in churches. “The Green Man” is
also a popular pub name.
The Green Man motif has many different faces
across the world. Primarily it is interpreted as
a symbol of renaissance. The cycle of growth is
reborn anew each spring.
Although the Green Man appears as a fertility
figure, a nature spirit, he frequently appears,
carved in churches and cathedrals, with
examples going back to the 11 th century.
