The Green Man Awakes!
Ever been in a pub called ‘The Green Man’. Did you stop and wonder
how it got its name? The Green Man is a symbol of rebirth as the cycle
of growth begins each spring. You will see the Green Man carved in many
churches, as his pagan roots were accepted in the Western Church. He
has become a modern day character, appearing in recent art & literature.
And the nearest Green Man Pub? It’s in Inglewhite, near Beacon Fell.

Finally comes the EASTER MONDAY bank holiday.
Why The Eggs?
John Aubrey referred to the day as ‘Fooles holy day.
With all the eggs used up on Pancake Day, Lent was a time when
dairy products weren’t allowed. But the chickens kept on laying!
So by Easter there were always plenty of eggs that needed using
up. Symbolising spring, painted eggs where given as presents.
It’s only recently we’ve moved to chocolate eggs!

‘Now we rise - and we are everywhere’
Pink Moon was ‘fragile genius’ Nick Drake’s third and final album, recorded in 1971 over just two
nights. It’s Nick’s starkest set, with only an acoustic guitar to accompany his introverted lyrics.
Pink Moon was poorly received and Nick moved back to his parent’s house in Tamworth-in-
Arden to retire from music. He died on 24 November 1974, aged just 26, from a overdose of
antidepressants.
If you’ve not heard Pink Moon - you should, it’s wonderful.
