About gender equality, the S&Ds believe that inequalities still exists and they are passionate
about the cause.
They work hard to ensure fairer treatment for men and women, including measures
to improve work-life balance.
Their goals are:

Equal pay and pension for both genders and equality in job opportunities and
professional career.

A new legislative proposal to improve maternity leave rights, 20 weeks.

A new directive on paternity leave so fathers have rights to get time off too, 2 weeks.

Protection of pregnant women at the work field.

Revising the 2010 Parental Leave Directive to include payments, to increase the number
of fathers ,who take up the leave they are entitled to.

Revising the 2006 Equal Treatment Directive to promote equal treatment and equal pay
for men and women, with effective sanctions.

Sex education to avoid unwanted pregnancies. Also all women have to access to
contraception and safe aborting

Strategic investment to provide more high-quality, affordable childcare.

The EU must ratify the Istanbul convention on combating violence against women.

Protection and briefing of the women refugees about their rights to prevent acts of
violence

A 40% for women at administrative councils till 2020

Equal education rights for both boys and girls

Support to the developing countries towards those goals

S&D has created the “Charter of Commitment Against Sexist Advertising” and once
again encourages every mayor of a major European city to sign it and thus ban sexist
advertising from their city.
