WHY GRABOUW IS RIOTING
Reasons for the ongoing violence in
the small Western Cape town of
Grabouw include lack of service
delivery, political interference, and a
"third force".
Service delivery was the most obvious one, according to the Grabouw
Civic Organisation (GCO).
A list of demands was handed to
Theewaterskloof municipal officials
after two protest marches, the first on
August 20, and the second on Monday.
Despite heavy rains bringing a
semblance of calm and relief, the

Media release: Protests in Grabouw – talks between
Theewaterskloof municipality and Grabouw Civics
The head of Grabouw SAPS, Executive Mayor, Alderman Chris Punt of
Theewaterskloof municipality, Mister Stan Wallace, Municipal Manager of
the municipality and several representatives of Grabouw Civics met
Wednesday morning in Grabouw to discuss issues regarding the current
unrest in the town.
The mayor expressed grave concern about the rolling violence and the fact
that the municipal test ground and fire brigade station were set on fire overnight.
