Elements of a Story 1 | Page 6

MINI-LESSON

In the beginning of a story, the introduction sets the story for upcoming actions and elements. The essential components of an introduction are the setting, major and minor characters, and conflict (problem).

The rising action describes the on-going conflict that occurs between two characters. The highest point of the conflict is called the climax. The climax is the most exciting part of the story.

After the highest point, the story begins to move toward a resolution. This is called the falling action. Solutions seem to arise after major conflicts. This is when the resolution occurs. It is typically at the end of the story.
