I was traveling abroad on vacation recently, and one of the things of most concern to me is safety, especially, being pick pocketed, and having my cash stolen. You can cancel credit cards, replace most belongings like clothes and toiletries, etc., but if your cash is stolen, it’s gone. It’s most generally wise to carry a good amount of cash when traveling abroad, but it requires a constant awareness of your surroundings and taking careful precautions.

Realizing the effort it involves to stay aware, I mused how it is actually like staying present and aware in everyday moments. It prompted thoughts about the pickpockets of life. They are abundant in much more than people out to plunder, but it jolted me a little how unaware we might be about those invisible pickpockets. We are being pickpocketed on a constant basis, almost as if you were walking dark streets in the most dangerous areas.

As unaware as we may be, everyday is full of opportunities to be pickpocketed by the worst offender; the pickpocket of complaining. There’s the weather; running out of milk, hairspray, whatever; running your least favorite errand; traffic; something you expected to happen
