TROLLSTIGEN ( NORWAY ) This is one of Norway ’ s most scenic and spectacular roads , and is part of the Norwegian Country Road 63 . This mountain road pass doesn ’ t allow vehicles over 12.4 metres – and with inclines of 10 per cent and 11 hairpin bends , that ’ s no surprise .
Trollstigen ( the troll ’ s path ) is a very popular tourist drive , and as such has a number of tourist stops – look outs , restaurants , that kind of thing – along the way , but it ’ s the drive that holds the appeal , as the road snakes its way across almost 50km between Sylte to Åndalsnes .
It ’ s a spectacular two-hour drive , that takes in deep fjords , waterfalls , tunnels and frozen lakes , but be warned … legend has it that trolls roam the mountains of Trollstigen every night , only changing to stone when the sun shines its first rays of the day .
ICEFIELDS PARKWAY ( CANADA ) One of the world ’ s most spectacular drives , the Icefields Parkway , spans 232km linking the Banff National Park and the Jasper National Park in the Rockies .
