I had a call-out one night to a house that I had recently connected to mains power . The clients had just moved in and the RCD kept tripping . They had done all the usual fault finding tasks as I explained to them over the phone , but the fault remained . So , I drove up there .
When I arrived , I went straight to the main switchboard and checked the RCD and circuit breakers . I could reset the RCD but as soon as I reset the power C / B , the RCD tripped . I pulled off the cover from the switchboard and found myself face to face with a large cockroach that had obviously found a nice warm home in there . Its back was touching the copper bus bar and every time I switched on the C / B the power would go through him and trip the RCD . And it was alive and well ! The woman of the house then came over and sprayed Mortein over the cocky , it scuttled away and the fault was cleared . They say that in the event of a nuclear attack , cockroaches will survive , and now I believe it !
