South Australia ’ s Flinders University will reduce its carbon footprint by 40 megatonnes over the next five years after signing a deal with Engie to supply it with electricity from 100 per cent renewable sources . The uni ’ s already doing some sterling energy production work with solar and EV charging stations – all part of its 2025 Sustainability Plan .

The new Level Touch door lock looks just like a regular lock – touch the top of it , however , and the door will magically open , thanks to capacitive touch technology . By hooking up with your phone ’ s Bluetooth , the technology bypasses the need for a key – although there ’ s still a keyhole should you need to use it . While we think this is pretty cool , it just conjures thoughts of someone like Tony Soprano chopping fingers off to get into a place – so we ’ ll pass , if it ’ s all the same .

CHARGING , CHARGING

Free-to-use EV charging stations are heading to regional and rural Australia , thanks to local startup Linga Network – the first two are in Nhill and Rainbow in Hindmarsh Shire , Victoria . The startup aims to overcome the infrastructure issues that have caused EV take-up in Australia to stumble . However , with 20 per cent charging taking one hour , we could be waiting a while yet .
