LIA JOINS FORCES WITH LAI
The Lighting Industry Association (LIA) and
Lighting Association Ireland (LAI) have recently
announced a commitment to working together
closely. Sharing a similar outlook for the future
of lighting, both lighting associations aim to
benefi t both their members and the industry on
a broader scale.
The partnership will provide an opportunity
to share member benefi ts between
organisations – including the LIA’s UKAS
accredited light laboratory, among a wide range
of services and training events. In the wake of
Brexit, the agreement will also offer a strong
foundation of shared strengths and interests for the future of the industry.
With 80 years of experience, the LIA is Europe’s largest trade association for
lighting equipment professionals. The LAI has been active for three years, and
is involved with the design, manufacture, distribution and installation of lighting
throughout Ireland.

ENVIROVENT SHORTLISTED
IN THE CIBSE
Ventilation manufacturer EnviroVent
has been shortlisted for this year’s
Chartered Institution of Building Services
Engineers’ (CIBSE) Yorkshire Region
Manufacturers’ Award.
The nomination is for the company’s
myenvironment app for the energiSava 200

(MVHR) unit. The app is available on both
Android and iOS and provides homeowners
a quick and simple way of adjusting their ventilation systems from their smart devices, as
well as the option to receive fi lter change notifi cations.
The app’s user-friendly interface and simple installation set-up are part of the reason
for its award nomination. User guides and technical documents can all be accessed
through the app, and homeowners can also provide feedback and future product

‘We are really excited to be shortlisted in the prestigious CIBSE Manufacturers’ award

‘We are proud of our commitment to developing innovative ventilation products and

Winners of the the CIBSE Yorkshire Awards will be announced on 10 November 2017 at
an event at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.
A new survey by reichelt elektronik reveals signifi cant
investment is needed in electronic installations to safeguard
homes for future generations.
In almost one fi fth (19%) of UK households, there are
signs of overloading of electrical installations. These are the
results of a new survey from reichelt of 1,000 participants in
the UK. The research also revealed that the East of the UK
experienced the greatest number of electrical overloads (23%)
when several electrical devices were used at the same time,
effecting lights or causing the fuse to blow.
Electronic devices have changed fundamentally in the last two
decades and so has user behaviour: people have more devices
than ever before and they often run on the same circuit. The high
load on cables, caused by the increasing number of devices, can
lead to dangerous cable fi res or even electric shocks if the cables
are outdated – even when using additional connector strips.
On average, domestic electrical installations in the
UK are 19 years old meaning they were installed at a time
before connected devices, smart homes and high energy
consumption became prevalent, therefore they are not
designed to handle these loads.
The majority of UK respondents are well aware of this
danger. 71% of respondents said they were aware of the risks
of out of date electricity installations, yet 42% say they have
no plans to upgrade the electrical wiring in their home.
