AFTER 75 YEARS WE LIKE TO
THINK THAT WE KNOW WHAT

T
th
he September issue of ECN brings with it not
only the usual coverage of the very latest in the
industry, but also my debut as its new editor.
I’m very pleased to be at the helm of ECN, but
more importantly, I’m most excited about getting
to know the electrical contracting sector and
those who make it tick. With important changes
facing us in post-Brexit Britain and with new
legislation, products and services always on the horizon, I’m eager
to learn as much as I can from the you, the industry experts.
There are a lot of pressing topics that ECN is looking to
explore in-depth over the coming months. How can we stay
ahead of the game with new developments in automation
and intelligent design? What can be done to encourage
more women to work at the coal face of the sector? Is there
enough training and accreditation being offered to the younger
generation? Of course, ECN wants to know your thoughts on
the big issues that are facing the industry – what you’re doing
to innovate, improve or meet the concerns of the sector.
This issue gets to grips with what’s happening on the front
line and you’ll fi nd insights from a number of industry leaders.
We explore the sometimes diffi cult-to-navigate relationship
between wholesalers and distributors, while taking a closer
look at the problems (and solutions) arising from testing and
measurement. This issue also offers up a special feature on
the upcoming new national trade show ED&I – to which ECN is
media partner – giving you the low-down on who’s going to be
there and what’s going to be happening.
With the event drawing ever closer, there couldn’t be a
better time for me to jump in, feet fi rst, to the very heart of the
electrical contracting industry. Some of the biggest names in
the fi eld will be there to offer their knowledge and expertise and
the event will provide ample opportunity to share innovation,
good practice and ideas. If you haven’t already marked it in your
diary, ED&I will be taking place on 6-7 September at the NEC
in Birmingham, you can register for free at the offi cial website
www.edandiexpo.com. There’s also still time to book your place
at the evening networking dinner – just email Claire Davison at
[email protected].
I’m looking forward to meeting you at ED&I next month, so
make sure you say hello if you see me – but in the meantime, if
you have any comments, questions or ideas for articles, please
drop me an email at [email protected].
