TAMLITE LIGHTING URGES EARLY ACTION FOR ESOS PHASE 2
With a deadline of 5 December 2019 , phase 2 of the Government ’ s Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme ( ESOS ) is on the distant horizon – but the time to ensure compliance is now , says Tamlite Lighting ’ s head of sales , marketing and product development , Colin Lawson .
Administered by the Environment Agency ( EA ), ESOS is the mandatory energy assessment scheme developed by the Government for organisations in the UK that meet the qualification criteria . These companies must carry out ESOS audits every four years , assessing the energy used in their buildings , industrial processes and transport to identify energy saving measures .
Tamlite Lighting believes that ESOS qualified companies can reap long-term financial and operational benefits by embracing the scheme – and its focus on areas of energy efficiency – earlier and not later .
‘ The opportunities for making energy savings through ESOS are many and varied if the scheme is given enough consideration ,’ explains Colin . ‘ Getting fully on board with the ESOS process is the best way to gain the maximum in financial and energy savings . Beware though , enforcement notices and fines are real possibilities of non-compliance . The time to make the changes , get the energy audit and start making savings is now .’
INFORM CUSTOMERS ABOUT HALOGEN BAN , SAYS ELECTRICAL DIRECT
From September 2018 , low efficiency halogen bulbs are expected to be phased out , and electrical supplier Electrical Direct is urging contractors to be aware of the facts in order to properly inform customers .
As well as the environmental impact , LED bulbs can offer cost benefits to customers over halogen bulbs . Despite the initial higher price of buying LEDs , switching from halogen offers customers the chance to save money by reducing energy bills due to their long lifespan and use of less energy .
‘ While most electrical contractors may be aware that the halogen ban will come into place later next year , their customers might not be . We ’ re urging our customers , the electrical contractors of the UK , to inform their clients of the benefits of LEDs now , so they are ready when the ban comes into place ’, said Wayne Lysaght-Mason , managing director of Electrical Direct .
‘ Many consumers might be reluctant to make the upfront payment to switch their homes to LED , especially as halogen bulbs are still considerably cheaper to buy in the shops at the moment . However , all electricians need to do is to let their customers know that they will be much better off in the long run once they have made the change .’

LUX-TSI and the BSI Group ( British Standards Institution ) have announced a strengthening of their long-term collaboration in the Lighting Sector by announcing that LUX- TSI has become a Platinum Member of the BSI Associate Consultant Programme , which will allow customers to benefit from continued investment in technical expertise in LED Lighting technology and compliance services .
A NICEIC registered electrician from Wigan narrowly missed out on the top prize in a contest to find the nation ’ s best tradesperson . Karl Mather , owner of KDM Electrical , was highly commended during this year ’ s Britain ’ s Top Tradesperson competition as organised by Screwfix . He was one of eight tradespeople who made it through to the grand final at Wembley after more than 5,000 tradesfolk entered the highly competitive contest .
