LIGHTING
Products claiming to meet a ‘ standard ’ aren ’ t always compliant
The Easilite app ensures anyone with a smart device can enjoy full lighting control from the palm of their hand .
The LightMatrix Power over Ethernet solution from Prolojik both powers and controls low energy LED lighting .
Smart and simple
With one easy to install module , electricians can now add smart control to existing lighting systems . Launched this spring , in partnership with Saturn LED .
An easy to install , easy to use module , Easilite is set to revolutionise smart lighting control , giving end users full lighting control at the touch of an app .
Easilite is compatible with a range of LED lamps and can be retrofitted . What ’ s more , it ’ s not just for gadget enthusiasts . The Easilite app ensures anyone with a smart device can enjoy having full lighting control from the palm of their hand .
Loop in , loop out functionality allows for a fuss free installation . The Easilite module uses mesh network technology , so each module also acts as a repeater – just add multiple units to achieve longer range connectivity .
Once installed , customers just need to turn on the lights at the wall switch and download the free Easilite app to get started . From the app , users can turn lights on and off with a tap , swipe to dim , or choose from pre-selected settings .
Lojikal choice
LightMatrix is an innovative Power over Ethernet lighting solution from Prolojik . The system makes use of plug and play data cabling combined with established DALI features to deliver an efficient control system that is simple , quick and safe to install . It also reduces the need for large distribution boards within confined riser cupboards , requires less horizontal infrastructure within the ceiling void and significantly reduces the amount of copper cabling required to power each luminaire .
The system both powers and controls super low energy and highly efficient LED lighting , producing energy savings of up to 11 per cent compared to a mains powered 240V LED system . The simplified installation process required for LightMatrix can also deliver installation cost saving of up to 30 per cent per floor in a typical commercial building .
LightMatrix uses DALI , the industry standard protocol for lighting . This means that luminaires do not require individual IP addresses to keep lighting within the M & E domain . This can simplify installation and maintenance and avoid the heightened network security risk created by the presence of thousands of IP addresses . Existing DALI systems can be upgraded to reap the benefits of Power over Ethernet . The system also offers benefits for ongoing maintenance . LightMatrix is open protocol , allowing for easier access to the lighting control system for in-house engineers or third-party contractors to adapt the system in the future .
Back by popular demand
Due to high demand , Megaman has relaunched one of its most popular products , the 6W GU10 dimming LED . Providing outstanding lamp life and lumen longevity , the LED offers an ideal economic and aesthetic replacement for traditional halogens .
Energy Class A-listed , the 6W GU10 Dimming LED provides a beam angle of 35 ° with colour temperature options of 2,800K , 4,000K or 6,500K . Furthermore , at L70 , the LED has 50,000 hours of lamp life and at a luminous us intensity of 500cd it performs exceptionally well – producing up to 410 lumens .
A diamond pattern front lens also hides the LED chip from view and makes the retrofit lamp similar in appearance to the filament equivalent . Furthermore , the 6W GU10 LEDs are compatible with all Megaman recommended dimmers , including LightwaveRF technology .
The UK emergency lighting market has for many years been the most open in Europe . Although products sold in the UK should comply with the CE marking directive , which includes the need to meet the low voltage directive and the electromagnetic compatibility directive , a lack of policing has resulted in many products failing to achieve even these very modest safety and performance criteria .
To be sure of acceptable quality , the best solution is to purchase products that have been independently certified , such as Emergency Lighting Products ’ ( ELP ) range of LED bulkhead luminaires and exit signs which are BSI Kitemark Certified to BS EN60598.2.22 .
The next best way to ensure quality is to specify equipment from reputable suppliers who have committed to membership of the Industry Committee for Emergency Lighting ( ICEL ).
Of course , reliability of emergency lighting is also reliant on the correct installation , plus routine testing and maintenance . BS5266 and EN50172 provide guidance on the safe and effective testing of emergency lighting installations . To simplify the testing and record keeping required by these documents there are several automatic test systems available . Possibly the most convenient is a bespoke DALI emergency lighting test panel like the Sure-Path system offered by ELP .
The panel can be connected to two DALI bus circuits each with up to 64 luminaires . It continually monitors the emergency lighting and at predetermined dates and times the system tests the luminaires for function and duration .

Glen Krise , European distribution director at Megaman , said , ‘ We are delighted to relaunch the 6W GU10 LED , a product that has remained a firm favourite amongst electrical contractors . The LED provides a low energy light source that retains an excellent performance in lumen output throughout its lifecycle .’
A focus on design
Thanks to a growing interest in interior design and a preference for design led technology , customers are constantly looking for innovative wiring accessory products to enhance their design aesthetic .
In response , MK Electric developed its Elements Collection , a stylish range which includes contemporary light switches and
