PUTTING SAFETY FIRST

As part of an ongoing asset management strategy , Harrow Council is installing Aico ’ s mains-powered multi sensor fire alarms . Here Claire Fletcher looks at exactly how this technology will improve safety for the borough ’ s social housing tenants .

Harrow London Borough Council owns approximately 5,000 properties across the borough , with social housing stock ranging from small studio flats to family sized homes . Surveys about the condition of this stock inform the council ’ s asset management strategy ; using this information , the council plans future works to ensure homes are maintained at a minimum of the government ’ s Decent Homes standard .

Naturally , fire safety is a prominent issue so , as a part of this standard , Harrow Council is fitting Aico ’ s mains powered Ei2110e multi-sensor fire alarms to upgrade its domestic properties to at least a category LD2 , Grade D standard .
Up to standard
Alarm installation is guided by Building Regulations and BS 5839-6:2013 , the standard for domestic smoke alarm installations . This clearly identifies both the grade of alarm system to use and the categories of protection .
Properties will be fitted with a heat alarm in the kitchen .
