CEDIA ANNOUNCES LARGEST TECH FORUM TOUR FOR 2017
Responding to industry demand , CEDIA has increased the number of Tech Forum events for 2017 . Starting at its new venue in Birmingham , CEDIA will travel across the country over the next 12 months bringing together home technology professionals for core product training and industry networking .
CEDIA owes the ability to host these beneficial events to the support of its industry sponsors . This year , members can look forward to hearing from the following brands : Amina , Atlona , AWE , Epson , Habitech , Invision Cinema , Ivory Egg , Lilin , Luxul , Meridian , One AV , Savant , Screen Excellence , Sim2 , and Wyrestorm .
Following the traditional Tech Forum format , each manufacturer will host a 60-minute product training presentation session . Running from 10am to 5:30pm , two sessions will run simultaneously every hour throughout the day , providing attendees with a large range of courses to attend .
New for 2017 , all sponsors will also be showcasing their latest products to attendees throughout the day with exclusive exhibition space , and will be available to answer any questions attendees may have .
Once the day ’ s training has concluded , CEDIA will host its popular networking event – Connect with CEDIA . Running from 7-9pm , it provides attendees with the opportunity to network with peers and CEDIA staff in a relaxed and informal setting .

APPRENTICE COMPETITION ENTERS FINAL STAGES
The search is heating up to find the next NICEIC and ELECSA Electrical Apprentice of the Year . Stage 1 of the contest has now closed with a significant rise in the number of apprentices who entered this year ’ s contest ( up 28 per cent on last year ).
The standard is also on the rise with the qualifying pass rate for the online exam ( stage one ) up from 65 per cent to 70 per cent . This year ’ s competition will also see more female apprentices through to Stage 2 of the competition .
Emma Clancy , CEO of Certsure , commented , ‘ We are delighted with the response to this year ’ s competition and are really impressed at the quality of all those who entered . It is great to see more females taking part and this bodes well for the future of the industry .’
Open to all Level 3 students , the competition seeks to test the skills and knowledge of those candidates who put themselves forward . In the next round successful candidates will sit a two-hour written exam to be held at locations across the UK .
Eight students with the highest scores will go through to the final , where they will be required to complete a number of practical challenges over the course of the day .
The competition is sponsored by Scolmore , which is once again offering up a range of prizes for the winner .

THE WINNER OF DELIGHT IN LIGHT IS …
The winner of Delight in Light was announced on 31st January 2017 . The accolade of Lighting Designer 2015 / 2016 and prize money of £ 1,000 went to Jimin Jeon from Northumbria University for her task light entitled L0 .
The 2015 / 16 competition was open to students on any year of a UK design course at HND or degree level , an MA student or a recently qualified designer . There were 50 designs submitted and over 2,700 votes cast , with six designs making it to the final .
The final was held at the Lighting Industry Association in Telford . Here the finalists presented a working prototype of their design to the judging panel of Peter Hunt , LIA , Simon Terry from Anglepoise and Innermost ’ s Russell Cameron .
Delight in Light was created by The LIA to promote excellence in lighting product design and encourage closer liaisons with the lighting industry .
The winner , Jimin Jeon , was presented with the prize money by LIA CEO Steve Davies and has been invited to attend the LIA ’ s Annual Lunch on 10th May in London to formally receive her award and join key players from all areas of the industry to celebrate the lighting industry .
