ELECTRICAL DESIGN & INSTALL EXPO 2017
FILLING THE VOID
David Kitchener , managing director at All Things Media , explains how he spotted a gap in the electrical industry ’ s event calendar , and tells us why the ED & I Expo is primed to fill it .
Having purchased another publishing company in late 2015 giving us ownership of Electrical Contracting News ( ECN ) amongst other titles , with ECN being the jewel in the crown , it became apparent to me during my due diligence when buying the company that this industry does not have a national exhibition . It ’ s quite clear that there are several regional trade shows but no national show . This is a fact I raised with many in the industry and in particular the Electrical Contractors ’ Association ( ECA ), which shared my vision for such a show . I am well aware that this has been tried in the past without great success , but magazine publishing and exhibition organising is what we do . With such a void in this area the aim is to bring everyone involved in the installation , design , specification , inspection , manufacturing and distribution of electrical products together under one roof , in the shape of Electrical Design and Install ( ED & I ). The ECA was keen to get onboard from the start and agreed to become the headline sponsor for the next five years , with the option of extending that further .
The ED & I Expo represents a real watershed moment in the electrical sector , allowing everyone involved in the industry to get together , share ideas , unearth new business opportunities and drive the industry forward . We expect to attract visitors from all over the UK and are extremely confident that the event will quickly become the ‘ must attend ’ exhibition for senior level decision makers , contractors , specifiers , consultants , architects and designers , distributors , training providers , facilities managers and other key influencers .
ED & I will offer a unique opportunity to learn about and interact with the latest products and innovations , hear from industry experts and network with thousands of industry professionals . The show will be shaped around discovering new technologies and services that can help businesses to grow . Comprehensive seminars will offer valuable insights into the latest industry opportunities and trends , and the latest on policy and legislation .
Comprehensive seminar theatre
The synopses of the seminar theatre topics will be announced in the coming weeks , however , we can share with you the topic headings as at the time of going to press .
There will be a panel session on both days chaired by the ECA with the topic being ‘ The 18th Edition Prophesy ’, in which the panel will discuss before an audience the 18th Edition of BS7671 . Other topics will include : Electrical safety – The hidden perils . Fire alarm systems – The relationship between part 1 and part 6 . Emergency lighting – Don ’ t be left in the dark .
‘ ED & I will offer a unique opportunity to network with thousands of industry professionals .’
The emerging marker for energy storage . Intelligent buildings – Smart opportunities . Practical CDM for contractors . Keeping on the right side of HSE . Risk assessment on the edge . KNX – The hidden gem .
Whilst we are working closely with the ECA as headline sponsor , we are in talks with all the other major associations related to this industry with a view to them not only exhibiting at ED & I , but also promoting the show on a regular basis to their members . Keep an eye on the ED & I website in the coming weeks as more announcements are made .
The ED & I Expo will be held on 6th- 7th September 2017 at the NEC in Birmingham . To find out more about the event , please visit www . edandiexpo . com
