sugars, you can only have 20 carbs a day and you must eat a lot of protein.
So after trying the diet for a week, I decided to commit. This led to me committing to two months of Keto. Having to see my friends shove junk food down their throats and washing it down with liquified sugar felt like torture because I was only able to bring meat and cheese everyday. After eating these same meals each day for months, the food I ate eventually lost flavor.. Eggs started tasting like salt dusted rocks. Meat became tasteless packs of fat. Then cheese became just strips of rotting dairy. My body was getting sick and tired of these repeating products. That's when I finally broke.
I was at school with my friends when I finally decided to eat something flavorful again. My friend had offered me a pack of Oreos and without question I took them. I unwrapped the packing and ate all six cookies. It was so satisfying to actually taste sugar again. For the rest of that day I ate as much junk food as I could. I didn’t go too crazy though since I didn’t want to gain back the twenty pounds I lost.
According to NCBI, the National Center for Biotechnology, I wasn’t alone in wanting to diet. About one half of teenage girls and one fourth of teenage boys have tried dieting to change the appearance of their bodies. I was actually lucky to lose as much weight as I did, since dieting doesn’t normally work for teens. This meant my twenty pounds wasn’t something to brush off. However, I know my experience doesn’t represent everyone else’s lived reality. Dieting isn’t always a success story and is more complicated than it seems.
As much as I hated this diet, it actually made me love my body. My friends all complimented how handsome I was after I lost all my weight. This helped me become more confident in my skin. Even though to this day I still have my struggles with loving my body, it's a lot different than how I used to perceive my body. I’m actually able to accept that this is my body and even though it isn’t perfect, I need to learn how to love what I’m given no matter what size.
