Electric Magazine Volume VI (Spring '19) | Page 3

EDITORS' NOTE We would like to welcome our readers to the most recent installation of the Electric Literary Magazine. Electric’s Volume VI is a symbol of the trials and tribulations our magazine has gone through. It is physical proof that through all the pain and stress, we’ve survived. That’s what our most recent volume is all about- Survival. Whether it’s meeting those bills every month or risking your life every day, everyone has their own way of surviving. The writers of Electric have made it their mission to create pieces that embrace the ambiguity of what it means to survive. Maleyah Moses’ poetry piece “To The Women” showcases the survival of an oppressed group through unity and solidarity. Brenden DeVilla’s poem “For The Misunderstood” portrays a case of cultural survival among indigenous communities. Joseph Mladinov’s nonfiction story “8 Left Behind” shows a great example of the classic survival theme of man conquering nature, while Mia Garza’s poem “The Gilded City” shows the result of when humanity’s conquest of nature goes too far. All of these stories are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat and challenge your own definition of what survival means to you. We hope this volume of Electric teaches you one must survive in order to know what it means to thrive.
