Key feature is powerful and user friendly Graphical User Interface(GUI) in RSCAD.
Along with the high level GUI, midlevel compiler & communications and low level WIF
multi-tasking operating system.
RSCAD: a software package developed to provide a fully graphical interface to RTDS. It has the
following modules:
1. RSCAD/File manager: Entry to RSCAD interface software. Facilitates information exchange
between RTDS and user.
2. RSCAD/Draft: For circuit assembly and parameter entry. Draft screen has two halves
containing circuit assembly section and Library section which contains component models.
3. RSCAD/T-line &RSCAD/Cable: To define the parameters of Transmission lines and
Underground cables. Physical geometry is main basis for data entry.
4. RSCAD/Multiplot: For post processing and analysis of results captured and stored during a
simulation study.
5. RSCAD/Runtime: To control simulation cases being performed on RTDS hardware & it is
the interface which allows the operator to change the parameters during runtime.
RTDS Applications:
Testing of complex HVDC networks, SVCs, STATCOMs, FACTS devices under steady state
and transient operating conditions to reduce risks associated with test conducting on
physical networks.
With dynamic simulation of large number of fault cases on RTDS, it is possible to analyze
the real system faults easily which results in the reduction of system downtime and
improve availability.
Protective Relay testing: It can be used to perform closed loop relay tests. Closed loop relay
testing provides not only the performance of relay but also response of system to its
reaction.(by taking hardware into loop-HIL)
Control system testing: RTDS can be applied to evaluation and testing of physical control
equipment.
