Iñuuniaqatiunik Ikayuutiłiq Every Iñupiaq of the Northwest Arctic tribes is responsible to all other Iñupiat for the survival of our cultural values and traditions. We are connected to each other through our cultural spirit handed down to us through our teachings and values. We are responsible for the survival of our tribes as a distinct Iñupiat group. We must make sure that our tribal leaders are working for the well-being of our entire tribe. y y Elders should be the key leaders in each village and in the region. y y Each Elders Council will designate elder representatives for each organization. y y Elders will support designation of youth representatives to each organization. y y Elders should be asked for advice by each organization in the village. y y Each village will hold a community meeting with all organizations, at least quarterly. y y Elders will work to make sure all organizations are united. y y Elders will provide wisdom, knowledge and advice. y y Elders must be respected role models. y y Elders will set the example for wellness. y y Councils will monitor the amount of drugs/alcohol coming into the village and ask for assistance from other organizations if necessary. y y Elders will provide guidance about illegal alcohol and drugs. 37 IÑUPIAT ILITQUSIAT IÑUPIAT ILITQUSIAT 38
