Aŋayuqaaġiich Savaaksraŋich y y Teach children plant names (edible or non-edible) and how to use and preserve them. y y Follow through with discipline. Parents and community members work together to discipline children. y y Teach children to share food. y y Teach respect for others’ property and the dangers of vandalism. y y Make youth understand consequences of what will happen if they don’t listen and learn. Aŋayuqaaġiich Savaaksraŋich y y Organize and help out in women or men’s club. y y Teach the proper use and management of money. y y Elders should not interfere when upset parents correct children. The proper parent behavior can then be taught after the parents have calmed down. y y Get straight to the point when talking with your children but be tactful when necessary. y y Get involved in the activities your children are participating in. y y Advise children that no matter what the problem is there is a solution. Ask Elders or read the Bible. y y Elder women must pass on the women’s role in the family. y y Elders promote and encourage family time through family dinners and family gatherings to teach obedience, listening, and family roles. y y Adults should be good role models for children. y y Tell your children who is the head of household and who is next in line so there will be no confusion if someone is gone. y y Encourage aunts and uncles to carry out their traditional role of teaching children. y y Teach children to deal with their sexuality and their roles and responsibility as parents. y y Teach children and grandchildren survival skills. 31 IÑUPIAT ILITQUSIAT IÑUPIAT ILITQUSIAT 32
