Aŋayuqaaġiich Savaaksraŋich It is important that each member of a family is taught their role in the family so that love, harmony and happiness prevail. That is when Elders can teach both young and adult and all will carry out their role in cooperation with all others. y y Elders will teach, guide, and advise children of their present and future roles with love and respect as well as by example. y y Elders will encourage healthy families based on Christian marriages. y y Elders and parents will be patient with children when teaching them about troubling behaviors such as drug and alcohol use and pre-marital sex. y y Problems can start at home. Be a good parent first. Be a good example and role model. y y Always be available when someone needs help. y y Take time to listen to your children’s problems, also extended families with problems. y y Use storytelling and stories about personal experience to train your children. y y Praise your children for their efforts. y y Share the rules you adults have to follow in setting the rules your children have to follow. y y Teach your children the importance of honesty. y y Work together with your spouse, agree on family rules and stick with them. 29 IÑUPIAT ILITQUSIAT IÑUPIAT ILITQUSIAT 30
