"It's been a privilege for the chaplaincy to serve you all this past year. We are grateful for the chaplain office and that we are home at EDSO. We've had countless conversations, lunches, cups of coffee, laughs and shared tears. Our mission is to offer a value-added presence, whether it's through taking care of a distraught family so our deputies can focus on the task, or offer a non-chain-of-command listening ear so staff can offload some stress, gain some tools to address the normal-yet-not-healthy aspects of the job so they can go home and flourish in their personal lives as well as on the job.

There is no higher honor than for us to call you family and friends, and we are glad we get to walk the journey with each of you."

Chaplains

Sierra Chaplaincy is a first responder chaplaincy offering care, comfort and hope to first responders and those in the community affected by tragedy. There are currently 38 active chaplains available to respond to a crisis any hour, any day. Chaplains have volunteered over 10,000 hours to the Sheriff’s Office and community this year alone.

The Chaplains are present to assist employees through the tough calls. Whether it’s by taking care of a distraught family so the deputy can focus on their duties or offer a listening ear so they can decompress. The Chaplains bare that burden; providing the deputy some tools to help address the tough aspects of the job and have some perspective so they can go home to family and focus on their personal lives.

Chaplains have always been a presence in the Sheriff’s Office, but with the new building, they now have a home. Their office is open and welcoming to any staff member that needs a quiet place to sit. They listen, whether it’s work stress or home stress, they are there to lend an ear.
